چکیده

A large number of metrics have been proposed for the quality of object-oriented software. Many of these metrics have not been properly validated due to poor methods of validation and non acceptance of metrics on scientific grounds. In the literature, two types of validations namely internal (theoretical) and external (empirical) are recommended. In this study, the authors have used both theoretical as well as empirical validation for validating already proposed set of metrics for the five quality factors. These metrics were proposed by Kumar and Soni. Keywordsobject-oriented software, metrics, validation.

Object - oriented product metrics : A generic framework q

In spite of considerable prior research, a generic framework has not emerged for structuring work on object-oriented (OO) metrics. We propose such a framework (Generic Framework) for object-oriented product metrics. The framework captures the generic structure of the underlying metrics space (Metrics Space) based on a mereological and set theoretic perspective of the building blocks of OO syste...

Quality Metric Development Framework ( q MDF

Several object-oriented metrics have been developed and used in conjunction with the quality models to predict the overall quality of software. However, it may not be enough to propose metrics. The fundamental question may be of their validity, utility and reliability. It may be much significant to be sure that these metrics are really useful and for that their construct validity must be assure...

The Confounding Effect of Class Size on the Validity of Object-oriented Metrics

Much effort has been devoted to the development and empirical validation of object-oriented metrics. The empirical validations performed thus far would suggest that a core set of validated metrics is close to being identified. However, none of these studies control for the potentially confounding effect of class size. In this paper we show a strong size confounding effect, and question the resu...

On the Notion of Semantic Metric Spaces for Object and Aspect Oriented Software Design

Quality assurance via metrics and quality models in conceptual modelling and design for software and data or knowledge bases has always been of a major concern for software, systems and database developers. Given the inherent difficulty of suggesting as objective as possible design metrics, this paper discusses a theoretical framework for software design metrics, which conceives parameters as d...

Theoretical Validation and Empirical Evaluation of Object-Oriented Design Metrics

Various object-oriented metrics have been proposed as a way of capturing features of object-oriented software such as encapsulation (information hiding), abstraction and inheritance. A major criticism of past object-oriented metrics is that little attention has been paid to theoretical validation or empirical evaluation of those metrics. By theoretical validation we refer to the process of ensu...
